By the end of the morning of June 6, soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division meet up with the 8th Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, who had landed that morning on the beach. The link-up took place on Causeway 1, near Pouppeville.
One of the paratroopers of the 101st Airborne, Lieutenant Dick Winters, will distinguish himself in the actions to secure the beach. At Brécourt, he leads 12 men of Easy Company in an attack on a German position and destroys a battery of four 105mm guns firing on Utah Beach. Thanks to this successful action, the lives of many soldiers on the beach were certainly saved.
