In the footsteps of the Battle of Brécourt

Located 4km southwest of Utah beach, the Manoir de Brécourt is an exceptional place, the scene of a fight that has gradually entered into legend. The excavation of this battlefield site was carried out by a team of the the University Bordeaux Montaigne (UMR 5607 AUSONIUS), in partnership with the Utah Beach landings museum, and with the kind support of the ministry of culture.
The second excavation campaign scheduled for May 2024 ended a few days before the inauguration of this exhibition. The results you will discover were unearthed during the 2022 operation. They are therefore provisional and an early step in the long process of exploration.They have been lightly cleaned and left in a state close to the one in which they appeared to us during those incredible weeks of 2022.
An operation of this size and type mobilizes multiple techniques. Rooted in the scientific field initially, it then extends into the social field by the transmission of memory and by the explanation of our results. A lot of people were involved in this and our thanks go to the Vallavieille family who are the owners of the Manor de Brécourt ,the people of Sainte Marie Du Mont, and all of those who have been involved in this adventure.
